언뜻 대조적으로 보이는 두 가족의 이야기를 통해 현대 이탈리아 사회를 풍자하는 코미디.
파보네 가족과 비스마라 가족은 같은 로마에 살고 있지만 매우 다른 삶을 살고 있다.
파보네 가족은 소위 '지식인'으로서 부유한 삶을 누리고 있고, 노동자 계급인 비스마라 가족은 극우에 가까운 정치적 입장을 갖고 있다.
그러던 어느 날 작은 계기로 두 가족이 엮이게 되며 이들이 숨기고 있던 각자의 비밀이 드러나기 시작한다.
